Stress: Portrait Of A Killer

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eYG0ZuTv5rs

(This documentary is on Netflix if you happen to have an account)

Everyone should take the hour out of their day, week, or month to watch this enlightening documentary. It will be worth the time --- taking the hour to educate yourself on the effects of stress on your life may impact your longevity.

The documentary highlights the revolutionary research of several prominent minds in the field dedicated to studying stress. The combined efforts of these researchers (and many more) have opened the eyes of the medical community to the long term, lasting, negative effects of chronic stress on humans at a biological level. These findings have been analyzed and correlated to the hierarchical structure of modern society. An additional important societal factor isolated as particularly damaging to individuals is the emphasis and respect given to the ability to work hard above all else. But is that really what we should strive for as individuals? Should we really admire those that work an 80 hour week?

A Smile Changes Everything

Thanks to all who came to our guest speaker on Feb. 28. The stories and images that were shared touched each and every one of us in attendance. The cleft and craniofacial population is a rewarding one to work with as an SLP.

For those of you who weren't able to make it, check out this video. There wasn't a dry eye in the room. If you are interested in volunteering with Operation Smile, visit their website to find out more.
